Notes form a talk I gave last week about how the Internet is affecting our sense of Self at Gaggle's pop up space, The Cave. The talk was part of a How To Be Future Thinking with Lida Hujic ( The First To Know ) Claude d’Avoine ( Dazed & Confused ) and myself. Shout out to Jade Coles for putting us all together.
Talk To me – Margot Bowman 2012, part of the BT ArtBox Project that celebrate 20 years of Childline, in situ outside of London's Old Vic Theatre . The K6 phonebox (designed in 1935) represents a time when people communicated privately from a fixed position, one-on-one conversation which seem to be so rare. Now we communicate in an increasingly public and on the-go way: writing on Facebook walls or Tweeting so that our conversations are visible to everyone. The Margot Bowman K6 will transform the phone box into a social space for those one-on-one conversations to happen again. This time the... read more

Christmas decorations of the future chapter 3 (of 3) Whimsical decorations light up with life and come together in a celebratory frenzy in the last chapter of the animated holiday premonitions series. We see a luminous, ethereal Christmas tree for a future in which plant life has ceased to exist naturally in the human world. An angel-like figurehead with magical powers sweeps in to top off the trimmings. Sound excellently provided by Kai Fish, animation perfectly executed by Andy Baker. Watch the rest ... read more
Christmas decorations of the future chapter 2 (of 3) Get transported 50 years into the future, where Christmas decor in 2062 seeks to enliven a society devoid of today's comforts. The ‘Beau-tee’ uses positive energy to infuse our soon-to-be artificial world with nature in the form of holly, mistletoe and other Christmas flora. The ‘Anxi-oh,’ meanwhile, has tentacles that soak up our anxieties to create a stress-free season—something we could likely use today, too. Sound excellently provided by Kai Fish, animation perfectly executed by read more
Christmas Decorations of the Future, Chapter 1 (of 3) Fast-forwarding to a dystopian future where time is precious, silence is rare and true affection a luxury, illustrator Margot Bowman animates the extroverted, energetic Christmas decorations that she imagines will join us for the holidays several decades from now. In this first installment of a three-part, animated series, we are introduced to the ‘Huggeration’, an outgoing bauble that senses when people in the room feel lonely, and responds with TLC. We also meet the well-intentioned ‘Shshhhhhhh’, which collects negative noise an... read more
This is 15Folds Every month we invite 15 outstanding creatives to make original GIFs in response to one another. Each contributor will base theirs on the GIF before, much like Chinese Whispers. 15 Folds is a cultural experiment devised by Margot Bowman, Sean Frank and Jolyon Varley – three friends interested in using animated GIFs to explore to what extent collaborative art can flourish within the parameters of uniquely online media. Follow the project on twitter to get daily does of GIF.
